more new music!

I downloaded the rest of 3 Inches of Blood’s discography (previously referenced in my last post) The two other albums rock just as hard as the first one.

Also, when browing around the Heavy Metal entry on Wikipedia, I came across a Swedish melodic death metal band named Arch Enemy — coolest thing about these guys is that the lead singer is a chick, and she has a good, guttural death grunt.

I’m turning back into a metalhead, God forgive me.

new music!

I went on a slight downloading spree this weekend.

I downloaded the new Combichrist CD, What the F*ck is Wrong With You People?, along with a couple of their older ones. I’m a big fan of dark industrial music (NIN, KMFDM, etc) and this is a very good example of dark industrial. Apparently they’ll be on the sound track to a film called The Gene Generation, which looks to have an interesting concept.

I also downloaded the new Marilyn Manson album, Eat Me, Drink Me, which might not be out yet, but is out there if you know where to look. Haven’t had a chance to give this a listen yet, though.

I found myself a new thrash/speed metal band to listen to as well, 3 Inches of Blood — very reminiscent of mid to late 80s thrash metal like Slayer and Megadeth. Very good for driving fast.

superbowl xli

So, the Colts won over the Bears (who I was cheering for by default, since everyone else at the party but one was cheering for the Colts, and I love underdogs). It started off pretty good for the bears, but the QB apparently lost it in the second half, throwing a number of interceptions and basically giving the game away.

Oh well, it’s not like I watch the super bowl because I actually enjoy pro football, I watch it for the halftime show and the commercials (and the money I always make in the score pool, which I’ll explain shortly)

The commercials this year were… well…meh. Bud Light had the best commercials (as usual) although none of them topped the first one, where two guys were gonna RPS (rock, paper, scissors) over the last beer in the cooler and on three one of the guys just threw a rock at the other guys face and took the beer. Coke just recycled some commercials from the movie theater, and godaddy.com just had another blatantly oversexualized ad.

As for the halftime show, I’ll admit it…I enjoy Prince performances. Not enough to buy or download his cd’s, but he’s a fine musician and has more #1 songs (as either the songwriter or performer…or both) than any other artist in history. Last night’s performance was no exception.

As for the score pool… what you do is take a 10×10 grid, and sell squares for X amount, whoever buys a square puts their initials in it. After all 100 squares are full, you take 10 playing cards, ace through ten, and randomly determine the value for the rows and columns. At halftime, whoever’s initials are in the square matching up to the end digits of the scores gets half the pot, and the rest goes to the person who’s there for the end of the game. Last night we bought squares for 50c each, and I won both times, having bought 12 squares. A nice little 800% profit.

stupid car

So, I’m driving home, about to pull into Chick-Fil-A for breakfast, jamming to some tunes from my mp3 player, when the sound completely cuts out. I check the line out cable, I check the volume, check the connections, check to make sure my mp3 player didn’t cut off because of batteries or something. Nothing seemed wrong, so I clicked it over to the radio, and nothing. Tried a cd… same result.

So I decided to pop into the dealership and have them take a look, and they tell me it’s going to be an hour before someone can even take a look at it. Oh well, sounds like it’s going to be short sleep day today.

I’m also having them check out the Tire Pressure Monitoring System light that’s solid and that seems to indicate a fault, according to both my owner’s manual and Nissan themselves, regardless of what their service techs say.

Update: Service guy just walked up to me and basically said “Your radio is dead, I have to order a new one. Five to ten business days until it gets here”

What the heck? I bought this car in September! Six months is a bit early for component failures. If I have any other problems in the next month, I’m seriously going to look into the lemon law.

Is it wrong that I’m half contemplating asking if he can get XM in the new head unit?
